Setting up SSTP VPN in Ubuntu/Linux

Step 1

For SSTP VPN connection you need download and install additional packages from http://sourceforge.net/projects/sstp-client/files/

From " sstp-client " folder
for 32 bit version you need download (version may very, use latest one)
"libsstp-client0_1.0.9_i386.deb" 
" sstp-client_1.0.9_i386.deb "

for 64 bit version you need download (version may very, use latest one)
"libsstp-client0_1.0.9_amd64.deb" 
" sstp-client_1.0.9_amd64.deb " 

From "network-manager-sstp" folder
for 32 bit version you need download (version may very, use latest one)
"network-manager-sstp_0.9.4-0ubuntu2_i386.deb" 
"network-manager-sstp-gnome_0.9.4-0ubuntu2_i386.deb"

for 64 bit version you need download (version may very, use latest one)
"network-manager-sstp_0.9.4-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb" 
"network-manager-sstp-gnome_0.9.4-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb" 

Step 2

Click on "Home" and start "Terminal" application

Step 3

Go to your downloaded files "~/Downloads" by default and install packages using command
"sudo dpkg --install <package_name>"

Step 4

Click on the "Network Manager" icon on your desktop bar. This icon can be in the shape of 2 computer screens or arrows or a signal meter if its a Wi-Fi connection that you use.
Select "Edit connections..."

Step 5

Go to "VPN" tab and click Add button to add new VPN connection

 

Step 6

Select "Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol (SSTP)" , click Create... .


Step 7

Set the "Connection name" as ManyVPN .
Enter "Gateway" , "User name" and "Password" using greeting email.
Hint: You can get correct credentials in the Customer Area ( "Gateway" is your "Server Address(Hostname)" ).

Check option "Ignore certificate warnings" 
And make sure option "Available to all users" unchecked
Then click Advanced... button.


Uncheck the "EAP" authentication method under "Authentication" section,
check option "Send PPP echo packets" .
Click Ok to save changes.


Step 9

Click Save to save changes. VPN configured now.

 

Step 10

Click on the "Network Manager" icon again, go to "VPN Connections" and choose "ManyVPN" (or connection name you set before) to start connection.


Step 11

Once VPN is connected you'll see "lock" on "Network Manager" icon.

Step 12

To check if your "IP" is changed successfully to ManyVPN one open the browser and proceed to http://manyvpn.com/.
You should see ManyVPN IP address at the top of the page

Disconnecting SSTP VPN on Ubuntu

Click on the "Network Manager" icon, go to "VPN Connections" and use "Disconnect VPN" option to disconnect VPN.




Troubleshooting SSTP VPN on Ubuntu

If you find any issues with your VPN connection, please get logs and contact our LiveChat support.
To get log messages please use command "grep ppp /var/log/syslog" 
or "grep sstp /var/log/syslog"
